10 Cozy Children’s Books to Read With Your Child This Winter

I love reading with my children in any season, but something extra cozy about winter and the holidays makes cuddling up that much more special. Reading is a fantastic way to connect with our children and to their benefit, hopefully turning them into lifelong readers.
I put together these ten books I have read with my boys over the years, and I hope your little ones will enjoy them, too.

- Cuddle up with a cozy blanket on a couch or bed.
- Grab a mug of hot chocolate to drink together.
- Do voices and act out the book. It makes reading the book much more fun; my boys loved it!
10 Best Children’s Books to Read This Winter
These are some of my favorite books I have read with my boys during winter and Christmas.
Red Fox Running by Eve Bunting

I think I have always loved this one more than my boys ever did. This poem is about the winter wanderings of a fox looking to feed his family. It is beautifully written, and the illustrations are lovely.
Its vintage feel and real-world story make it the perfect addition to any book collection.

Moe the Dog in Tropical Paradise by Diane Stanley and Elise Primavera

This is a book I have had since I was a child, and I love that I kept it and have gotten to share it with my sons. It is about a dog named Moe who finds a creative way to beat the winter blues.

The Thing About Yetis by Vin Vogel

Pete the Cat: Snow Daze by James Dean

Pete the Cat has a special place in my heart. My son has always loved these books and even dressed as Pete the Cat for his 4th Halloween. I have always loved the lessons taught in such a fun way with Pete the Cat. It’s always groovy to be yourself with Pete!

Splat the Cat books are hilarious, in my opinion. This is another series I have enjoyed reading with my older son. I don’t often laugh aloud at children’s books, but these truly hit my funny bone!

The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen

An Oldie but a goodie! I think it’s essential to read classic fairytales to our children, despite how strange they seem sometimes.
My best friend gave us our copy from her childhood, so I cannot find the exact book, but I found a lovely picture book version instead!

Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson & Jane Chapman

I cannot state enough how much I love the Bear series of books! These were my favorite series and fit perfectly as cozy reads for every season! Bear does his best to stay up for Christmas with his friends. Will Santa come by?

I love Julia Donaldson’s children’s books, and this one is especially perfect for winter. Check out The Gruffalo first, as it is the prequel.
