Slow living is a topic that is quickly picking up steam. It’s time to fly in the face of production 24/7 and do…well, nothing or at least close to nothing.
Practicing simplicity brings a sense of balance to the day-to-day hustle and bustle and is a way to stay mindful of our minds and bodies and practice self-care simply and easily.
Being productive all the time is not only not fun but also not good for your state of mind. Our world is always on the go, but that does not mean we need to be on 24/7, no matter what anyone says. Finding simple and easy ways to slow down and practice slowly living will help productivity in the long run.

Here are five ways to practice slow living every day.
- Breathe
- Have Fun
- Meditate
- Nature
- Wu Wei
Connect To Your Breath

How often do we pay attention to this automatic function we also control? Your breathing can bring you back to the present moment, slow you down, and relax.
- Count your breaths: ex: inhale for 4, exhale for 4.
- Find a mantra: ex: Inhale, exhale, or breathe in, breathe out.
- Focus on the sound or sensation of the breath.
Find Your Inner Child

Letting our inner child take over is a great way to stop “doing” for the sake of productivity.
We can learn from our inner child that things can be fun without an end goal constantly in sight. So, let your imagination take over!
- Stargaze or find shapes in clouds.
- Paint, build a fort, and make a mess
- Use meditation to connect to your inner child.
Take a Meditative Walk

This is a way to bring your focus to the now and practice being here with your body, simply observing without judgment.
- Start with either foot and slowly walk from heel to toe, noticing each sensation.
- Concentrate on your body in its surroundings.
- Let go of any thoughts and move with intention.

Sit in Nature

The great outdoors can be the ultimate reset and the most fantastic teacher in taking time just to be. Find a secluded spot away from noise and people. Sit in silence and slow to the pace of nature.
- Go forest bathing.
- Find a spot and listen to the rhythm of nature.
- Stand outside and watch the sunrise/sunset.
Practice Wu Wei

The ancient Chinese art of “doing nothing.” It means “non-action.”
Now, this is more than just sitting around literally doing nothing but going with the flow of life and letting go of trying to control all the aspects of your life.
It is best to begin practicing Wu Wei when life is smooth so that you are ready to face it without being overwhelmed when stress arrives.
- Relax through meditation or yoga.
- Find a balance between work and rest.
- Be aware of what you cannot control and let that shit go.
Conclusion
Ultimately, it is all about striking a balance between productivity and relaxation. Begin practicing one of these techniques to help you slow down and recharge. Slow living can be a challenge in itself, but it is a challenge that is good for you!
