Spring is the awakening of nature from its long, cold slumber. It is a time when new life is emerging, and we as humans feel a spark of hope and renewal no matter our religion or background. The coming warmth and sunshine inspire who we wish to become.

The spring equinox is a beautiful way to celebrate the coming of a new season. Since Easter, Ostara, and the spring equinox are so interwoven, I tend to blend aspects of them into my celebrations. I tend to celebrate the season rather than a religious holiday.

There are many ways to welcome the new season, so let me tell you about my favorites! I hope you find a new tradition to take away and inspire your spring equinox celebration!

What is the Spring Equinox?

On the equinox day and night are equal length. The days will get longer and the nights shorter as we approach the summer solstice. It usually happens between March 19 to 23 in the Northern Hemisphere and September 19 to 23 in the Southern Hemisphere.

The word “equinox” come from the Latin aequinoctium which means “the time of equal days and nights”.

Many cultures have honored this day as a time of fertility, new beginnings, and growth within and out in nature.

It is also called the vernal equinox.

Why is it important to celebrate?

  • It helps us connect to Mother Nature and appreciate the changes in our outer world.
  • It gives us a sense of hope that like nature does every year we can change and growth as human beings.
  • We can learn from the light and awakening world that we are connected.

Here are fun ways to color eggs without store-bought kits:
