7 Best Ways to Know Yourself Better

1. Astrology Birth Chart
Birth charts are so interesting to me. I love astrology, so this was a fun way to learn more about this vast topic and more about myself. The thought that the universe has so much information about who you are is fascinating or, at the very least, fun if you don’t believe it. You can find these for free. Usually, you only need your birthdate, birth time, and birthplace to receive your birth chart.
I used and loved astrostyle.com for a free birth chart. It gave me info on my rising, sun, and moon sign and also the planets. Everyone knows the sun sign, so learning my rising and moon signs was interesting.
Great Places to Try:
- Astrostyle – has a free one-page birth chart, but if you want to dive deeper, there is a 30-page option for $25.
- Cafe Astrology – another excellent place for a birth chart for free and had much more info for free!
- Astro Seek – another tremendous free chart with lots and lots of information!
2. Enneagram
The Enneagram personality test explains why and how your personality developed. The ancient origin of the Enneagram is largely debated, but Oscar Ichazo is responsible for modernizing it.
This system consists of 9 personality types, and its symbol has three parts: a circle, a triangle, and an irregular hexagon in the center. This is a fun way to learn more about yourself and those close to you and may even bring more understanding and harmony to your relationships.
Great Places to Try:
- Truity – Over 700,000 tests taken in 30 days! That shows how interested people are in getting to know themselves better!
- Enneagram-Personality
- Personality Path – I always love sites where I don’t have to give my email to get my results.
I also used this book and found it helpful!

3. Personality Test
The classic personality test has 16 personality types that you might fit into. Using personality testing and enneagram can give you an even deeper understanding of yourself.
The first one that usually comes to mind is the Myers-Briggs personality test, but there are others, such as the NERIS type and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter. Exploring our personality is one way to aid in self-improvement and self-love.
Great Place to Try:
- 16Personality – This is one of my favorites. It is a NERIS-type test.
- My Personality Test – This is a TypeFinder based on Myers-Briggs.
- Truity – This is a Myers-Briggs Test.
If you want to go further and pay for a personality test, there is the MBTI test, which is $60.
4. Ayurveda Doshas
I was trained as a yoga teacher, and the doshas were something I found particularly interesting when studying. The doshas are part of ancient Ayurveda, which translates to “knowledge of life” and is a type of medicine/healing system in India.
There are three doshas, and everyone has a bit of each, but one or two will be most dominant and fluctuate throughout your life. You are trying to balance the elements within you (fire, air, water, earth, and ether). They can affect your moods and energy. This is a great beginner article about the doshas!
The 3 Doshas:
- Vata – are known to be cold, light, slim individuals with great imaginations and lots of energy.
- Element: Air & Ether
- Season: Autumn
- Balanced: creative, kind, and full of energy
- Unbalanced: anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues, and poor circulation
- Pitta – are known to be hot, muscular, sharp individuals with aggressive tendencies and lots of endurance.
- Element: Fire & Water
- Season: Summer
- Balanced: quick learner, strong, and healthy skin and hair
- Unbalanced: impatient, bad temper, and prone to acne and inflammation
- Kapha – are known to be heavy, cold, soft individuals with caring and methodical minds.
- Element: Earth & Water
- Season: Spring
- Balanced: patient, strong bones and joints, and loyal
- Unbalanced: stubborn, prone to weight gain, depression, and lack of motivation.

5. Deep Questioning Journal Prompts
Sometimes we need to dig deep and ask the hard questions. Journaling is a beautiful hobby and therapy to help us work through issues, discover more about ourselves, and unload unwanted thoughts and feelings.
There are more journal prompts out there than you can shake a stick at and more guided journals for every feeling from anxiety, depression, shadow work, or just prompts to dig deeper into who you are.

IQ tests are a fun way to challenge your brain and determine whether you are a secret genius! IQ tests are the least important way to know who you are, but they can be fun and boost your brain power, so I wanted to include them.

The five love languages are essential in teaching us how to give and how we wish to receive love. This can be a powerful tool with intimate partners. The five love languages are:
- Words of Affirmation
