7 Secrets to Creating Meaningful Rituals for a Cozier Home

WITH spirituality, magic, and simple reminders.

Your everyday routines can be more fulfilling. Let me show you how!

What Makes a Home?

House refers to the physical dwelling, the four walls and the roof over your head and the address and geographic location of your residence. Home refers to the energy entity created by that physical dwelling, the family that lives in it, and the identity that arises from the interaction between the two.”

Who Am I?

My name is April, and I have been a homemaker and mother for over 8 years. It is the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done. Being home with my children has been amazing as I am introverted and a homebody, but it has also felt stressful and isolating. I know I am not alone, so I started this blog to inspire and help others like me because we are not alone on this beautiful and chaotic journey of motherhood and homemaking.

How I got here

Over time, I sought a way to combat my burnout and find meaning and balance in my everyday routines. Unfortunately, most of the blogs and information I found were overly traditional and religiously rigid, which did not vibe with my beliefs and interests.

My blog attempts to organize what I believe and serve those who want to see homemaking in a different light. I want this to be a place for all homemakers who don’t want to fit into the mold of the traditional homemaker.

Much of what I offer is based on my spiritual journey, but I want it to inspire others to find their unique path, so take what you want and leave what does not resonate. I hope to help bring peace, inspiration, and meaning to your everyday life and a desire to honor your home as a sacred space.

My Best 7 Tips for Meaningful Homemaking

I’m super excited to share the top 7 secrets I discovered on
my path to becoming a more fulfilled mother and human!

Secret #1: Find the Heart of Your Home

So much comfort and meaning comes when you find and designate the heart of your home. This can be anywhere that has meaning for you.

For me, it was the fireplace in my dining room because it is where everyone gathers. It needs to be a place that you and others gravitate to.

Some Ideas:

  • kitchen
  • dining room
  • living room
  • a tiny, cozy nook
  • anywhere that you feel the most comforting energy in your home!

Take time to find the heart of your home and then bless it in whatever way resonates.

Secret #2: Follow the Rythm of the Seasons

The modern world often leaves us disconnected from the natural world around us. When we notice the seasons, we can begin to follow their flow and realize there is a time to honor slowing down and a time to be vibrant and alive.

When in doubt, follow the seasons:

  • Winterself-reflection, stillness, silence, resting, withdrawing, letting go, & dreaming
  • Springnew beginnings, renewal, nurturing dreams, planting seeds, growth, & hope
  • Summerenergy, empowerment, realigning with goals, abundance, & passion
  • Autumngrounding energy, gratitude, honoring life & death, release, and remembrance

Secret #3: Protect and Bless Your Home

People have many reasons for wanting their homes to be cleansed and blessed. Sometimes, they deal with spirits or unwanted opposing forces.

Still, in most cases, for everyday homemakers, there are other reasons, like someone getting over an illness, after a negative person leaves our home, or to move out of old stagnant energy.

Ways to protect and bless:

  • smoke from sage, lavender, incense
  • candles
  • crystals
  • prayer & intention
  • singing bowls

Secret #4: Add Magic with Intention and Mindfulness

Magic is not like the movies. You can’t wave a wand and have everything you want. Magic is all about mindset and intention. The real magic is within you daily; you must find where to focus it.

Our homes are already where we place our love and devotion, so why not take that further with mindful magic?

  • Cook with intention by adding herbs and spices by their correspondence, like rosemary for protection or basil for communication.
  • Stirring intentional magic into your tea or coffee, such as an affirmation to be happy or strong.
  • Concentrating on one task at a time, like washing the dishes and only being aware of the water and the feel of the dishes in your hand. Magic is in the moment.

Secret #5: Make Time To Re-connect to You

It may seem obvious, but as mothers, sometimes we need those reminders that to stay magical and well, we must care for ourselves first, as hard as that may be.

We cannot give from an empty cup, so think about when you can carve out time just to be you. To explore your hobbies, interests, and inner world. Take time to unplug and be alone.

Here are a few ways to care for you:

  • Journal-shadow work, gratitude, art journaling, bullet journals
  • Meditative Hobbies– crochet, knitting, embroidery, cross stitch, quilting, puzzles
  • Wellness– yoga, yoga nidra, meditation, breathing techniques
  • Mental Escapes: video and board games, fantasy books, coloring, painting, drawing

You are enough so treat yourself so you can treat others too!

Secret #6: The Power of Small Rituals to Inspire the Day

I am sure your days can be long and hectic like mine. That is why finding small rituals to begin and end our day is so important. This helps us start our day with strength and willpower and end it with release and peace.

Morning:

  • Pull an oracle or tarot card and let it inspire your day
  • Mentally or physically say something you are grateful for
  • Say positive affirmation in a mirror

Night:

  • Light a candle and say a prayer
  • 5 min meditation: ex. loving-kindness
  • Take a shower or bath to symbolically “wash off” the day

Small rituals add significant value to your life, so remember the small things!

Secret #7: Be Clear About your Values & Beliefs

Make a list of all the things that matter to you. What are your core values? Your ethics? What are your beliefs about life? These are essential things to ponder and discuss with your family. It can also draw everyone in your home closer. Honoring what matters most makes for a more stable and strong home.

How to do this:

  • Take time to ask yourself what you value and journal about it. Don’t rush it.
  • Gather with your family and get their input on what matters to them.
  • Find your commonalities and write everything down
  • Get creative and maybe make a sign to hang in your home to help remember what is important to your family.

Be proud of the home you have built and hang those lovely values up on a wall!
